Organic
Choice
Although
not a large market, Carrs Fertilisers - in keeping with our
policy of offering a broad based choice - produce and sell
a range of organic fertilisers. |
|
|
Due
to the number of different organic registration bodies, each of
which has their own set of rules, it is suggested that you consult
with your Carrs Fertilisers contact prior to making an organic fertiliser
recommendation.
APPROVAL
Carrs
Fertilisers submitted to have its organic brands registered
with the Soil Association in April 2000 and is still awaiting
a
reply due to their backlog and constant changes to their registration
system.
However,
as the materials used in our organic fertilisers are generically
approved by all of the organic bodies, organic farmers are free
to use our products. As with all organic fertiliser products, the
use of potash is restricted which means approval must be sought
from the farmer's registration body prior to use.
RAW
MATERIALS
Nitrogen:
There are no nitrogen fertilisers approved for organic use.
Phosphate:
Reactive Phosphate Rocks (RPR's) are generically permitted for unrestricted
use.
Carrs Fertilisers Organic Choice products are based on Gafsa, the
world's leading RPR (which is also used in our 'New Choice' and
'Scotphos' products). Gafsa RPR also provides other important nutrients,
including calcium, magnesium, sodium, sulphur and trace elements
(copper, cobalt, zinc, selenium and manganese).
Potash:
There are no sources of potash (other than charcoal and plant extracts)
which are permitted for unrestricted use. Sulphate of Potash (SOP)
and Sylvinite are approved for restricted use, subject to approval
from the registration body.
Of
these, Carrs Fertilisers use Sylvinite as SOP is too high in sulphur
for most grassland systems and is also too acidifying. Sylvinite
also provides a significant quantity of sodium, which is an important
nutrient in an organic system.
