The formulations developed then, and since, have continued to deliver all that I could require of them. These are that the fertilisers:

• Should be cost-effective
• Should be leaching resistant
• Should contain elements of immediately available nutrient but primarily deliver sustainable fertility to the soil and cropping system
• Should assist in minimising the loss of nitrogen to the environment
• Should promote plant and animal health
