Introducing AVAIL ® Phosphorus Fertiliser Enhancer

AVAIL works at the microenvironmental level to:

  • Phosphorus Fertiliser Enhancer Surround phosphorus in a  water-soluble "shield"
  • Reduce phosphate fixation in the soil
  • Keep more phosphorus available to the plant throughout the growing season.

Establishment the key to unlocking yield potential

The development of a plant's roots, and the subsequent initiation of yield-determining tillers, depend on adequate available phosphate around the developing roots of the young plant.

In the first six weeks the roots can only access around 5% of the soil to obtain nutrients. The very limited mobility of phosphate further challenges the plant's development.

AVAIL can help your crops reach their potential.

With the introduction of AVAIL ® Phosphorus Fertiliser Enhancer into the UK, growers have the opportunity to harness the value of the phosphate they are applying, which will help provide the required available phosphate the plant.

Carrs recommend that whenever phosphate fertiliser is applied to autumn sown crops, 80% or more of the P necessary for that crop is applied pre-emergence as AVAIL-treated P.

AVAIL-treated P will remain accessible by the plant for the whole growing season, thus will supply the crop requirements throughout the life of the crop. This is a significant advantage over conventional phosphate fertiliser, which starts locking up in the soil soon after application.

The extra cost of AVAIL is small compared to the advantages it offers. Indeed, by increasing the availability of the phosphate it reduces the cost of plant-available P by half.

AVAIL can help your crops reach their potential.

The wheat on the left received AVAIL-treated P,the wheat on the right standard P. Note the larger plant size and root system on the wheat that received AVAIL-treated P.

The Carrs 80/20 System

Below is the detail of our 80/20 system, a new programme designed to answer many of the challenges of nutrition in autumn sown crops.

Introducing 'PK 80/20' + AVAIL

Phosphorus Fertiliser Enhancer What is 'PK 80/20' + AVAIL?

A new approach to PK fertilisers for autumn cereals in which 80% of the P and 20% of the K requirements are applied in the autumn, with the balance applied in the spring together with nitrogen and sulphur.

Why 'PK 80/20' + AVAIL?

  • The highest nutrient uptake in establishing autumn crops is phosphate and calcium
  • The phosphate in ‘PK 80/20 ’ is treated with AVAI L , unique phosphate fertiliser enhancer
  • Potash uptake is highest in spring, so it makes sense to apply it in the spring
  • Potash prices are still very high,so it also makes sense to ‘spread ’ the purchase of potash between autumn and spring

How does the 'PK 80/20' + AVAIL system work?

  1. Establish your soil indexes for P, and Ca. If you don't know them, contact us for soil sampling.
  2. Estimate your yield.
  3. Choose the appropriate ‘PK 80/20 ’ + AVAIL grade (see table below).
  4. For each ‘PK 80/20 ’ AVAIL grade there is a corresponding spring NPK +S grade to apply the correct nutrient balance. We will contact you to discuss the correct spring balancing fertiliser for you.
